ECONOMIC AND TRADE RELATIONS
Trade between Italy and Bangladesh has grown over the years to reach a volume of 2.7 billion euros in 2022 and 2.2 billion euros in 2023, which places us in sixth place among Bangladesh’s destination markets globally and second among European countries exporting to this country. Italy mainly imports clothing, footwear and leather products, while exporting textile and industrial machinery in general. Italian exports account for about a quarter of trade. The stock of net Italian FDI in Bangladesh in 2023 was 132 million euros. These are small and medium-sized enterprises active in the textile, agro-industrial and energy sectors. PROSPECTS FOR GROWTH IN BILATERAL ECONOMIC RELATIONS.

Bangladesh has had very strong economic growth over the past two decades and has met the requirements for promotion from Least Developed Country to Developing Country expected in 2026.
The high population, the growth of the middle class and the multiple development needs make this market very promising for Italian companies, especially in the energy, infrastructure, technology and agro-industrial sectors.
The presence of a large and well-integrated Bangladeshi community in Italy, the largest in a continental European country, contributes to increasing business opportunities between the two countries. The Bangladeshi authorities encourage the establishment of foreign companies and strive to improve the business environment. In recent years, numerous Export Processing Zones have been established to facilitate the establishment of foreign investments.
