A reception was held last night at the Le Méridien Hotel in Dhaka to celebrate the 80th Anniversary of the Italian Republic, observed on June 2.

H.E. Khandakar Abdul Muktadir, Minister of Commerce and Industry, Textiles and Jute, joined the event as Guest of Honor. Distinguished guests included H.E. M. Iqbal Hossain, Minister of State for Disaster Management and Relief; Hon’ble Rumeen Farhana; the Chief of the Bangladesh Air Force, Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan; and the Inspector General of Police of Bangladesh, Ali Hossain Fakir.

Among the topics highlighted during the official speeches was the announcement of the establishment of the Bangladesh-Italy Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BICCI). On the sidelines of the event, Minister Muktadir met with the founding members of the Chamber, who presented their vision and outlined the initiatives being developed to strengthen bilateral economic and trade relations.

As in previous years, the entirely Italian menu was curated by Chef Cristiano Marrosu, who travelled to Dhaka specifically for the occasion. Guests had the opportunity to sample some of the finest products of Italy’s culinary tradition at dedicated stands showcasing pasta, mozzarella, olive oil, Prosecco, and coffee.
