Embassy’s processing of outstanding Work Visa Applications

press communique 03 October 2024

With reference to the demonstration that some work visa applicants are planning to organize on 7th October 2024, the Embassy of Italy would like to recall its previous press release of 09 September as well as the joint statement with MOFA of 11th September, and clarify the following.

Important steps have been taken to increase the output of the visa section, which already is the largest provider of visas in Bangladesh amongst European Union Member States.

The Embassy is working on thousands of work visa applications and has started to return the passports with the aim of progressively increasing the number. The target is to clear a significant share of the current backlog within two months.

Applicants shall be aware that having a “nulla osta” (work authorization) does not guarantee the issuing of a visa as specific checks are made to avoid corruption and detect forged documents.

The Embassy wishes to highlight that its visa section is also confronted with a growing number of applications in other categories of visa being as important as work visas, such as study, family reunion, re-entry and business.

The Embassy recalls that all visa decisions, including timing and appeal procedures, only depend on Italian applicable laws and regulations.

Visa and migration issues are the main priority of the Embassy’s agenda. The Embassy is committed to solve the current problems and hopes to receive the applicants’ understanding.
